Inspiration for the New Year - 3 Henry Ford quotes
Every year during the winter holidays I read a broad selection of business related materials for inspiration for the coming year. Something I encountered online this year was a collection of quotes by Henry Ford, some of which I already knew while others were new to me.
Here are three that I would like to share as a ‘start of the year reflection’ as they address both basic material business realities and higher aspirations.
‘It is not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It is the customer who pays the wages.’
Some commentary in today’s terms: an organization that cultivates awareness for this among its employees is developing intrapreneurs and a stimulating, successful company culture.
‘A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.’
My understanding of this quote is: such a business is not only poor in not having a purpose beyond money, but may also be poor in the material sense, as it may fail to unleash employees’ full potential.
‘If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said ‘faster horses.’.’
A timeless comment about innovation and the obstacles it faces. However it is reassuring to see that an innovative mindset tends to prevail in the long term.
Out of this selection, my personal favorite is the second quote. I wonder which one you like best? Or is there another Henry Ford quote that you like in particular?
